Carmel Real Estate & Homes for Sale in New York

Carmel New York : is the county seat of Putnam County and a hub of business and government activities. The Carmel real estate market offers a blend of historic and contemporty homes for sale, waterfront properties with lake views, and urban townhouses and condominiums. Perspective home buyers can expect historically significant buildings, as well as a variety of new construction and homes in the Town of Carmel and Putnam County, which is a region of rolling hills, sparkling waterways and lush landscaping. The present development capacity for single- and multi-family homes in Carmel is approximately 5,500 homes; however, there is still plenty of vacant residentially zoned land available for building. Putnam County, located a mere 50 miles from New York City, can be found in the heart of the picturesque Hudson Valley; an area rich in colonial history featuring charming villages, beautiful scenery and modern conveniences. Putnam County is one of the fastest growing areas in the state and is composed of six townships - Carmel, Kent, Patterson, Philipstown, Putnam Valley and Southeast - each with antique shops, fine restaurants, local museums and an abundance of natural historic resources. Carmel, situated along scenic Lake Gleneida, consists of the hamlets of Carmel, Mahopac and Mahopac Falls in the southeast portion of the county. Unlike most towns in the area, farming was never a major industry in Carmel. As the county seat since 1812, Carmel had no other industry except government. In fact, the Putnam County Courthouse in Carmel is the oldest courthouse in continuous use in New York State until it was closed for renovation in 1989. Its striking Greek Revival architecture and grand façade were lovingly reconstructed to modern standards and it is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
